Industry leaders join forces to instantly broadcast real-time process information to the factory floor.

Adaptive integrates innovative LED display technology with Mattec’s proven process monitoring systems to redefine plant floor communications and productivity.

Milwaukee, WI, October 24, 2005 . . . Adaptive Micro Systems LLC today announces the signing of a distribution relationship with Mattec Corporation – a recognized leader in process and production monitoring systems for the factory floor. By seamlessly interfacing Mattec’s solutions to the AlphaVision™ Series of large area, high-visibility LED displays and Andon boards, Adaptive now makes real-time process information instantly accessible to the factory floor workers who operate the equipment.

“This relationship brings two highly respected best-of-breed solutions together to help manufacturers take productivity and profitability to new heights,” says Bob Radder, Vice President for Adaptive Micro Systems. “It’s a prime example of our philosophy of doing whatever it takes to offer customers more.”

As a leader in brilliant tricolor and full-color wall and ceiling-mounted LED displays and Andon boards, Adaptive plays a key industry role in helping manufacturers optimize their efficiency and productivity. The exceptional readability and reliability of LED technology in plant floor communications combined with cost-effective, hassle-free systems connectivity has made Adaptive a sought after resource for manufacturers of all sizes, including Fortune 500 companies in the automotive, aerospace, distribution and bottling industries.

Similarly, Mattec is the premier global provider of process and production monitoring systems. “We have over 1,200 customers around the world who rely on our real-time data acquisition systems to integrate and manage production process information,” notes Dave Monroe, Vice President Sales & Marketing for Mattec Corporation. In order to maximize the utility of this vital information, more and more customers are looking for ways to make it more readily available to everyone involved in the production process. “Traditionally, the information we gather has been distributed to fairly isolated RF and PC solutions,” adds Monroe. “Adaptive’s innovative LED display solutions were an ideal way to meet the need.”

For Engineered Plastics Corporation in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, the joint effort has produced fundamental operating advantages. “Adaptive’s AlphaVision™ LED displays put the information that the Mattec system gathers right where it needs to be,” says Jim Spyers- Duran, Director of Lean Initiatives at EPC. Because the people operating the production equipment can instantly see when machines are running in spec or out of spec, EPC has significantly improved its response time to process alarms. Changeover time has also been reduced. Since operators now know ahead of time how much longer the current job will be up and what order needs to be run next, they can start preparing for the next run well in advance. The Adaptive displays also make operators more aware of scrap percentages. “In the past, operators never really had a good appreciation for how much scrap was involved,” notes Spyers-Duran. “Now, it’s the first thing they look at every morning on the Adaptive display.”

The versatility of the Adaptive solution has also been a big plus for EPC. “Due to its convenient interfacing capabilities, we’re able to display human resources information and safety messages, as well as production data, on the Adaptive board,” says Spyers-Duran. “Yet that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Next, we’re going to link our monitoring information from our ERP and Central Material Systems. From a manufacturing perspective, the possibilities are virtually endless with Adaptive.”

EPC President, Deb Bristoll-Weis, summed up the Adaptive/Mattec relationship by saying that she couldn't imagine processing without Mattec. And now, she couldn't imagine Mattec without Adaptive LED displays. “In manufacturing, everything’s moving at the speed of light,” concludes Bristoll-Weis. “Having the right tools and seamlessly integrated communication is how we’re going to compete internationally and Mattec and Adaptive enable us to do that. In fact, the results have been so substantial and immediate that our Adaptive investment paid for itself in a matter of months.”
